They Might Be Giants (May 2, 2002) - Created for Touchstone's May Fan Art Contest (theme: Band) from all sorts of random pictures acquired from Google's image search. At first I was going to go for some seriously bright, rainbowy kind of coloring, but I don't know, I just couldn't go through with it and retreated to my nice safe monotone sepia tones. The wonderful grunge brushes used to scuff things up were made by Rose (damnapple.fredfarm.com, whereas I ate away at the borders with my tried and true (and probably by now, overused) "vertical line" set from Sarah's aircrash.nu. I tried a little experiment this time whereby I immediately put a desaturation adjustment layer over everything so that I actually assembled the collage in black and white, and then went back and added color later. I think it was somewhat helpful in preventing myself from getting distracted by the original colors of the individual images when trying to figure out how I wanted to arrange them. All in all, I'm pretty pleased with the results...
